Male cat and female cat fighting - male "marking"

I have four cats, but the 9 yr old neutered male and 1 yr old spayed female are the fighters.nbsp;Have had 9 yr old since he was a baby and the 1 yr old for about six months.nbsp; They hate each other.nbsp;I've read article after article and tried all the things they've suggested on how they can get along.nbsp;Tried diffusers, calming liquids, calming collars, homeopathic remedies, etc. Nothing worked so far. Male started spraying in last couple of months (vet checked, all ok).nbsp;Tired of cleaning urine with products that don't work and frustrated. Now, female hiding under dining room table, male agitating whenever he sees her.nbsp; How do other multi-cat households do it?nbsp;Should I let them fight it out? Want to keep both cats because they are strays and were thrown out by someone and I hate to get rid of them, but is it hopeless case and should the younger one go? Appreciate any suggestions.nbsp;Thanks.

Cat are most interesting animals, they follow us but never express that to us. It is so interesting to grow cats.

It's possible to keep both, but not without some give and take. It may be necessary to keep the male but only as an outside cat; leave food and water for him daily on your front or back patio. On another note, if it's warding him off you're trying to do, cats happen to hate vinegar. The smell of it is said to ward them off so a few sprays in the places you don't want them every once in awhile, they should no longer tread there. Though if he's only recently started to spray then it may not be too late to stunt it; if you take the male cat to the vet asap to get him fixed early on, you have a 50-50 chance of stopping it. Now as for the behavioral problems, if it's the male that's aggrevating her, fixing it may also subside his atitude problems. When a feline is spraying, it's marking their territory and don't generally like intruders. So it may only be territorial issues that could be helped by a good visit to the vet.

We have two cats that fight all the time.  We do not let them duke it out.  We stop them when we are home.  The female just does not like the males at all.  She only likes one male cat that we got when we got her.  We have 8 cats all together and they fight from time to time.  I do not expect them to like each other all the time but if fighting is severe you should step in .

The best thing you can do to stop a cat from marking is to get it "fixed", meaning spayed or neutered. They shouldn't even be able to spray if they are both fixed? So that's pretty confusing...

In most cases, the best way to get 2 cats to get along is by using time and space. They need time to adjust to the other, without having it be forced. The best thing you can do for the cats is just to not interfere and let them go about things naturally. Eventually, the two will get used to one another. Forcing them into a closed space together is never a good idea, until they are ready. And even then I would not reccomend it. They just need to get used to the other's presence from a distance first.

I know, because I have 4 cats myself and when I brought two of them home, the other two older cats hated them at first. But now they all get along because I didn't interfere with their natural order.
