Can zebras run faster than horses?

I have never had the chance to see Zebras and horses together at the same time (no horses in the zoo) let alone race each other... any takers?

This stated that the fastest speed recorded for a racehorse is 43 m.p.h. (69 km.p.h) and the fastest speed recorded for a plains zebra is 40 m.p.h. (64 km.p.h.). I noted that far more work done on checking the speed of horses (especially racehorses) than there has on zebras and that I wouldn't be surprised if a zebra could run as fast as a racehorse.

Horses and zebras are very closely related, so the difference between the sped of each is negligible. More attention may have been paid to the speed of horses than the speed of zebras, so it's also possible that the full potential of zebra speed has not been studied enough to compare the results with racehorse speeds, which have been studied in detail for decades.
