Any recommendations on a small pet?

I'm trying to choose between a hamster, fish, or a rabbit. Something that's not too hard to take care of but fun to have.

Hmm, a fish is pretty good but you'll have to change the fish tank every now and then. In saying that, you'll have to change the cages of both a hamster & rabbit so that won't help much! All of them need care & maintenance which will ultimately be your responsibility. I think if you want a pet that's fun and interactive, go with the rabbit or hamster. You won't be able to play with your fish on your lap!

Rats are actually my favorite "cage" animal, as they are smart enough to learn their name and will come when you call them. They are less smelly than hamsters and gerbils and will actually be AWAKE when you are:) Gerbils will run from you- they are fast like mice. Hamsters are known for biting and sleep all day. Again, I had 2 pet rats (they live about 6 years) and they were great! A rabbit is an okay pet, they never seem to get over that 'scared of people' thing though. Many people let theirs run around their house, but I must warn you- their urine is GOD AWFUL! It is a thick, sticky yellow and it stinks! You can litter train them for their poo but I've never seen one pee in a litter pan. They make better outdoor pets if you have the space. I personally am not much of a fish person & think Rats are much more fun to have about the house!

That depends. The fish is the odd man out. You can hold a hamster or a rabbit, but you can't do anything with a fish. Do you want a cute critter you can pick up and play with, or do you want an "ornamental" pet?

The fish is the best choice if you want something that relaxes you, and you like the idea of decorating the critter's tank with cool stuff. One fish isn't very interesting, though. Several fish make the investment of a tank, filter, accessories, etc. more worthwhile.  However, keeping an aquarium can turn into an expensive and complicated hobby.

Hamsters are cute, but they sleep most of the time during the day. They're easy to handle. They can be on the nippy side unless they're very used to being picked up and petted.

Rabbits are more demanding than hamsters. Being social animals, they need a lot of attention either from you or other rabbits. They also need a big cage and lots of space to run around. They like to chew on things. There's a reason why you'll see lots of rabbits at animal shelters!

Rats are good "pocket pets," too. Most rats are clever, amusing, and can be affectionate. They do need a pretty big cage. They also need to be with other rats, since they get lonely and depressed by themselves. The males can be more smelly and careless about where they do their business.

For you, though, it sounds like a hamster is the best bet.

i think i would prefer the fish... They are not that hard to Taken care of, and they give a peaceful and relaxing mood to the people who own them
