You must remember that every dog, like every human, is an individual and you can't accurately predict behavior in a dog any more than you can in a person. A dog that isn't trained or socialized is much more likely to be a fear-biter, regardless of breed, although some breeds and some individuals need more socializing than others. There is no good reason not to socialize a dog. If you're planning to get a puppy, just plan to socialize & train her or him and shouldn't have any major concerns. Any dog will bite however, if they feel their owner or home is threatened.

These dogs can be very aggressive if not socialised at an early age.they need loads of trainning and loads of exercise. Never buy from a petstore, backyard breeder or puppy mill. Temperament: Versatile, fearless, and assertive, the Doberman Pinscher thrives on human companionship and stimulation. They are exceedingly loyal and protective of their family and home. This breed does best with older, well-behaved, and considerate children. They do not typically get along well with other household pets. They are aloof and reserved with strangers and make excellent guard dogs. This people oriented breed may closely bond to one particular family member. The Doberman Pinscher requires constant attention and does not do well if left alone for extended periods of time or is in a two-career family. They are not recommended for the novice, inexperienced, or sedentary owner. Training: The Doberman Pinscher is easy to train but requires a dominant owner. Early socialization and obedience are crucial to prevent shyness, timidity, and aggression. They will not respond to harsh or heavy-handed methods. This breed does best with positive reinforcement, firmness, fairness, consistency, and respect. The Doberman Pinscher excels in competitive obedience, schutzhund, tracking, search and rescue, police work, and as a therapy dog. Activity: Highly energetic, Doberman Pinschers require daily extensive exercise and stimulation. They enjoy family play sessions and make wonderful walking companions. This breed will do okay in an apartment provided they are sufficiently exercised. However, a securely fenced yard is best for romping and running freely. I had a friend who had two Dobermans, well trained & socilaised & bought up around three children with no problems. When I used to visit their place, the dogs were often about & were friendly & would happily interact with our greater circle of friends. In saying that, not long after the female had puppies, I was in my mates room & we were play fighting. All of sudden she bolted into the room & bit my shin. It was a sizable bite & I still have the scar today. (15 years later.) She must have felt threatened & possibly was on heightened alert for her pups - they were in a room across from where we were. Additionally I had held the pups earlier that evening - perhaps she smelt them on me & assessed me as being a threat. From then on, she & I could not be in the house together. Not because I was scared, but she remembered me, or my scent. I would have to wait outside until she was locked up. It just shows you, a dog is a dog. It would be ignorant to think otherwise. And one of the greatest characteristics of a dog is it's loyalty & staunch protection of it's owner & home. Unfortunately for me, I met the wrath of that characteristics underside. Serves as a warning to us all though.
