How long does it take for calories and the nurtritional value from food to be absorbed into the body?

I am pregnant and suffering from morning sickness and wanted to know how long to try and keep the food down so that my baby (and my body) get the nutrition they both need.

I can't answer your question, but I too suffered from extreme morning sickness with all of my pregnancies. I can tell you this: unless you become dehydrated, you shouldn't worry about your baby. The baby will draw from your stores and will get all it needs to grow and thrive. With 3 pregnancies, I was hospitalized a total of 8 times for dehydration and I had perfectly healthy babies who's birthrates ranged from 7 1/2 lbs to nearly 10 lbs. I know its tough, but it will get better. Good luck to you!

The rate that food gets absorbed varies by individuals. During pregnancy metabolism does slow down so food will stay in your system longer. You should strive to avoid throwing up by using the following methods : suck on mints, eat smaller meals, eat more protein, get out of bed slow and try sitting in bed a bit before getting up, and avoid foods and physical activities that make you sick.

Food takes about 3-4 hours depending on the amount of food eaten to be digested by the body. It is advised not to pig out or eat a lot of food in a single sitting but small frequent feedings instead.
