We have a 5-year-old and an 18-month old and we are all vegan and while they are very healthy and strong and we take their nutrition very seriously. We are curious to know how you go about finding out if are getting enough calcium, protein etc. Is there a test you can do to find this out?

I dont think there is a test that can be given, but mention it at your childrens next check up. What you can do is research what a child nutritional needs are at different ages. For example: a 2 year old needs ____grams of calcium a day and ____ grams of protein a day. Check your childs food intake to make sure they are getting the correct amount of grams of calcium, protein, vitamins etc. It sounds like you are doing an excellent job of meeting your childrens nutritional needs.

I would say to ask your child's doctor next time you go visit him.Just keep in mind that adults are different than kids therefore what is good for one, might not be good for the other.Adults require some type of vitamins and kids obviously need a more adequate nutrition according to their age.

You're pediatrician should be able to help you - if not themselves they're likely to know what are options are. So long as their diet is balanced - meat products & diary products being substituted with alternate sources of protein/iron/calcium - they're probably doing ok.
