The big question... should I buy a real or fake christmas tree this season?

Which is better for the environment?

Personally, I prefer real Christmas tree's for their asthetic appeal over plastic ones. And as far as I am aware, plastic tree's are made from PVC which is a big no-no - even worse, lead is apparently used to stabilize certain PVC products. Not ideal.

Nowadays I think most Christmas tree growers plant sustainably, but it might pay to shop around.

You could also buy a tree and plant it, or decorate an existing tree - maybe not such a great option for you NOrthern hemisphere folk shovelling snow in December - or you could flag the whole tree tradition all together. Decorate the whole living room instead, or the fireplace if you have one.

I love having a real christmas tree. It's a bit of work but it smells wonderful and looks so much better than a phony tree. If you can replant it, that's a great idea. It's sad that it's not always possible but we save the tree at our house for campfire wood for the summer.

To keep needles down to a minimum, choose a fir if you can. Fraser fir is known for lasting the longest. We pour sugar water or ginger ale in the tree stand daily to keep the tree lasting longer.

Cheers :)

Well, it depends on what you want. If you want that old-fashioned Christmas feeling wich is a lot due to the smell of the tree and you don't mind the mess when it starts dying, then get a real one. If you want to be eco-friendly and don't care so much about tradition (oh, and it's fashionable nowadays, too!), then get a fake one. In any case, if you want to make both the cat and the mouse happy, you can get a living tree, either in your yard, or in a flower pot (of course, that means the tree should not be very big). Obviously, you could have no tree at all. So, according to how you plan your X-mas to be, chose A, B, C or D. ^^

I suggest you buy the fake one since cutting trees is very bad for the environment. Fake christmas trees are easier to decorate and not very messy.

Definately would have to say a fake one, because then you can bring it back out every year as a tradition and put it up with the kids.
