How does a carbon credit scheme work in a global sense?

If 1 country has a scheme setup in X way and another country has a scheme setup differently how does a global company work out their carbon credits or is there an international scheme?

There is a global scheme which can be used otherwise wherever your head office is based can be used although you do need to check the countries options etc etc

Carbon credit Requirement can be worked out by considering the following for a Global company:

a) Square footage of area.

b) The poundage of Carbon emissions expected from general operations.

c) The poundage of Carbon emissions due to the travels of the the employees and workers for the organization.
