Obsessing over food labels?

Lately I've found I can't get something from the supermarket without checking out it's fat/calorie stats on the back - how do I avoid getting obsessive about fat content? Or is it bad thing in the first place????

I certainly don't think reading food labels is a bad thing - it's good to know what you're putting into your body. You won't to avoid getting obsessed though, food is supposed to be enjoyed! And make sure you have a good understanding of what you are reading, your interpretations may not be accurate.

Not all fats are bad - unsaturated fats are better than trans, saturated & hydrogenated for instance. Comparing them with like products will give you an idea of how something stacks up against its competitor. The products you want to avoid are those with high fat & sodium/salt content, and articficial flavours & colourings. I have a test where if I don't know what half of the ingredients are - ie. lots of 'E' numbers, I put it back down.
