Do dogs have sweat glands like humans?

How do they cool themselves? Is this why they pant?

Dogs only have sweat glands on the pads of their feet, nowhere else on their body. The only way they have to cool off, is by panting and through the pads of their feet.

Maybe thats why dogs love to stick there heads out the window when riding in cars and let their tongues hang out?! It cools them down quicker inside the hot car... on top of being outright fun that is :)

You were pretty close to answering your own question - Dogs have some although fewer, swear glands than humans, and most of their sweat glands are located along the base of their feet. A Dog will pant to regulate body temperature. By panting, a dog can cool the mouth and tongue, along with blood which is circulated through the head, keeping body temperature at a safe and normal level. Although dogs pant to control escalating temperature, they cannot protect themselves against extreme heat, and pet owners should carefully monitor their animals during warm weather to prevent heatstroke. When dogs pant heavily during hot weather, it may be a sign of distress. Make sure that your dog has access to plenty of fresh, cool water, along with shade, and never leave your pet in a car, even for a minute, as temperatures inside cars can rise very rapidly.
