At what age is it safe for a child to eat seafood?
asked 2 years ago
That depends on your family. If you have a history of food allergies it may be better to wait until they're at least a year in case they do have a reaction. We have no allergies in our family, and my son was eating shrimp at 5 months, clams at 9 months and he LOVES fish. Lots of goodness if they do take to it. Careful of shell & bone of course! Hope that helps!

The appropriate age for children to eat seafoods depends on their development. If the child already has developed a number of teeth enough for him or her to be able to chew, then you may feed the child seafoods. However, Make sure that the child is not allergic to any of it.

I have 4 children and i asked the very same question to my pediatrician. He said a "safe" age is 2 years old for the first introduction of seafood. Other pediatricians i imagine, if you asked, would vary in response. Check with yours if you're still unsure.
