Do the lies directly affect your life? Do your friends believe them? If they do, do they believe you when you try to correct them? If not, I recommend finding people to hang out with that would stick by your side and believe you if you said a statement against you was a lie. If the lies aren’t directly affecting you, you should still try to find a group of friends who will stick by you. If a bully sees you with a group, they may not try to spread the lies. If you can’t find a group of people to hang out with, you should try to find people with the same interest as yourself. If your good at math or something, offer advice to neighbors who seem to be struggling. There are a lot of ways to make friends. If you can do that, surely they will believe that the lies aren’t true.

Attack each of the liars with a shovel.
OR
If you have already attempted to ask the liars to stop and they simply won't, why not speak to the nearest authorities. If you are a school student, alter a counselor or some other authority or file a suit for slander. If you are an adult and the lies are somehow directly affectingthe way that you live your life, such as making it hard at work, the once again, file a police report.
Going back to the school issue, I know it is quite insane, but I say from personal experience that making people afraid of you usually prevent them from making up lies about you. That approach is heavily discouraged, but I assure you, people don't start rumors about people they think will hurt them. If you've no intention to fight, simply look or act tougher, or start a rumor that you fought someone outside of school. Make th liars afraid to say anything about you other than "Nah, I dont think we should talk about him/her."
Then, theres always the reverse bullying method. When they say somethin, take all your rage and retort. Talk about them, or start lies or rumors about them. It will probably not solve the issue, but it may make you feel more confident if you fight fire with fire.

I personally have turned things around on my bully if she calls me a B!*)h I would say takes one to know one. After a few times of that she gave up and stopped with the verbal assults :)
