Aside from the environmental benefits, are there a better option nutritionally?

There's a lot of information out there to suggest the pluses of switching to organic over non-organic. Organic foods have higher nutrient content and less toxins, and are therefore would tend to be much healthier than non-organic. "Organically grown food is your best way of reducing exposure to toxins used in conventional agricultural practices. These toxins include not only pesticides, many of which have been federally classified as potential cancer-causing agents, but also heavy metals such as lead and mercury, and solvents like benzene and toluene. Minimizing exposure to these toxins is of major benefit to your health. Heavy metals damage nerve function, contributing to diseases such as multiple sclerosis and lowering IQ, and also block hemoglobin production, causing anemia. Solvents damage white cells, lowering the immune system's ability to resist infections. In addition to significantly lessening your exposure to these health-robbing substances, organically grown foods have been shown to contain substantially higher levels of nutrients such as protein, vitamin C and many minerals." Listed here: http://whfoods.org/genpage.php?tname=geo... Although organic foods will often be a more costly choice for the consumer, the benefits regarding health of both the consumer, the animals involved in food production & the long term impact on the environment - in my opinion, far out weigh the cost. I understand not everybody has the privilege of organic being a choice & I hope we eventually see this change.

Organic food is less polluted with toxic chemicals such as hormones, antibiotics, pesticides, herbicides, fertilizers, etc. When you ingest toxic chemicals your body has to detoxify them. That process robs your body of vitamins and minerals. Also the detoxification process can produce toxic chemicals on its own. Antibiotics in your food can kill the friendly bacteria in your digestive track, harming your digestion and absorption of nutrients. Organic food is generally more nutritious and tastes better.

The first benefit of eating organic is more nutrients A recent study found that organic fruit and vegetables contained as much as 40% more antioxidants than non-organic produce. They found that levels of antioxidants in milk from organic herds were up to 90% higher than in milk from conventional herds. Full article in link below: http://www.macrowholefoods.com.au/news.p... The second benefit would be supporting your local economy. By buying organic you help to protect local jobs and support local farmers, since most fresh organic produce would be sourced from your own country. Dried and tinned organic produce often comes from overseas but fruit, vegetables, dairy and meat would normally come from your home country. The third benefit is the environment. By buying organic and bio-dynamic you are helping to protect against Genetically Modified Foods. You also help to protect the land, soil and waterways from becoming more contaminated from pesticides, herbicides and other toxic chemicals.
