That's kind of the same to any dog. From the third month on i think it's reasonable to start trainnig your dog. When he acts bad, repeat the dog's name in a firm tone of voice (that's not loud or screaming) and say "no". A dog is a like a child, you'll have to repeat the process million times until he understands it. Good luck! Remember be pacient..

Begin training as early as possible while the puppy is still small. Start with an easy command such as "sit." Then move forward to commands such as "sit", "stay", and "come". Use the Black Lab's natural retrieving instinct to teach it to fetch. Remain calm and positive while you're trasining your Black Lab; dogs can sense negative emotions and training under these conditions are counter productive. Have fun training your Black Lab!

From the moment you get a dog training is an important task. You start teaching a dog its name, that you are its new 'family', to come when called, where to eat, where to potty etc. from the moment you bring a new dog home.
So no matter the age of your dog right now is the best time to start training.
For pups formal training is very short sessions and for older pups puppy kindergarten and for adult dogs over 6 months the longer basic obedience classes all work well.
If you are talking hunting dog draining usually that is begun in the first couple of years of the dog's life.
