What's the best way for me to store waste vegetable oil prior to converting it into bio-diesel?

How long before it deteriorates therefore becomes an ineffective fuel?

Whether refined or not, all oils are sensitive to heat, light and exposure to oxygen. To delay the development of rancid oil, a blanket of an inert gas, usually nitrogen, is applied to the vapor space in the storage container immediately after production. This is referred to as tank blanketing. Keep them cool. Refined oils high in mono-unsaturated fats keep up to a year, while those high in polyunsaturated fats keep about six months. (Although this refers to it's nutritional value - I am unsure of either sources life span with regard to being an effective bio-fuel.)

Any waste vegetable oil you collect must be measured with free fatty acid content in it. Many researchers have developed processes for converting waste oils into usable bio-diesel fuel. The basic process consists of a reaction between an alcohol and the long chain fatty acids in the oil. For an effective reaction, the oil must be properly filtered to remove all contaminants. Once processed, the maximum time of storage for bio-diesel will be no more than six months.
