Owning a lovebirds is quite different than owning a dog or a cat. Dogs and cats are familiar to most people, so it is easy to interpret what a wagging tail or fur standing on end means. Brids are not easil understood. While they do have their own body language, it is not as easy to interpret. Both parrots and the people who interact with them can become frustated when things don't happen the way they anticipated. Parrots may become frustated and will bite as a way of expressing it. People may become frustated and begin to neglect their birds.
It is possible to have a rewarding owner-pet relationship with your lovebird, but it is somehing at which one has to work. It's not enough simply to provide food and shelte; you have to engage, Inteact, and to some extent, entertain your bird on a daily basis. In short, owning even a small bird requires a really big commitment.
