Non-Traditional Ways Teenagers Can Make Money

Until they are 15 or 16 years of age or older most teenagers end up babysitting or cutting lawns and other typical teenage jobs to earn their spending money.   They aren’t the most appealing of choices for most teens though.  There are other ways for teenagers to make money today that might be more interesting to them.

One way that teenagers can make money is by doing paid surveys.  There are several survey companies that actively search out teenagers’ opinions because teenagers have more spending money than they used.  Companies want to know what teenagers think.  You can find a list of the survey companies that will pay teens to do surveys here.

Teenagers that spend a lot of time online might want to consider starting their own blog.  If they have a special interest that they are knowledgeable in – like books, skateboarding, or a specific genre of music – they can create a blog for free at blogger.com and write about the subject that they love.  Once they have some content up, they can put up advertising in the side bars for related products like Amazon books or music.  They may need to get a parents help with this as many affiliate programs pay through Paypal and you can’t have a Paypal account until you are 18 but a parent can let them get paid through their Paypal account.  Since teenagers are great at social networking anyways and usually have huge networks of friends and friends’ friends they can promote their blog and potentially make some money.

Speaking of social networking, there is one site where you can actually get paid to network.  It’s called Yuwie and they pay for referrals.  Payment is based on how much revenue Yuwie makes in a given month.  While they are there doing some social networking and getting referrals they can promote their blog.

If teenagers want to make money on a non- online actitivity they should think about the things they are good at.  Are they good at writing?  They can try writing for teenage focused magazine or writing stories for book anthologies like Chicken Soup for the Teenage Soul.  Are they good at skateboarding or playing an instrument?  They could give lessons to younger children.

There are many ways that teenagers can make money if they think creatively.
