How to Create a Popular Blog

With the increasing popularity of blogging, it grows more and more challenging to carve out a niche and create a site that will draw in the masses. Follow these steps to do just that.

1. Step 1

   So you want to create a blog, and not just any blog, but a popular one? The first thing you need is a great blog name. This name is the first indication of your identity and subject matter. Choose wisely. This name is one that, with growing popularity, becomes your brand. Don't get too clever, or too challenging, or do anything that might make it difficult to find in an online search.

2. Step 2

   Register the domain name. I like Name Cheap. I think the name says it all. If you just want to test the waters, it's a negligible amount to secure the name for a year. Then you need to consider a web host. I did my research and decided that Host Gator was best for me, since there were so many inexpensive hosting options available.

3. Step 3

   When setting up the blog, most people choose between two main platforms: TypePad and WordPress. I have worked with both. And I prefer WordPress for ease of use. And there are so many handy plug ins.

4. Step 4

   After the name and basic set up, this is one of the most important steps. You need to start writing quality posts. As a rule, bloggers write about what they know. They write about what they care about. And the good new is that because of the world wide web, you can connect with others who care about the same things. And try to write quality post EVERY day as you establish yourself in your field. People will return if they know they can count on good content.

5. Step 5

   Network with other bloggers by commenting on blogs that interest you, and relate to your blog. If you are a single parent, seek out other single parent blogs. If you are into travel, look for other travel blogs. Become a regular commenter and you will catch the blogger's attention, draw them to your site. And that's when it get even more exciting...

6. Step 6

   Let there be links! Oh, yes. We call it blog love. This is what happens when you like a blog and link to them from your site on your blog roll. And so often, as you gain popularity and their attention, other bloggers will link to you. It's very exciting and a huge honor.

7. Step 7

   Master the art of linking. Link within your blog to other posts you have written. Link to other bloggers within a post when you comment on something they have written or when offering up your praise of their site. Watch your Alexa Rankings rise.
