The Bhimashankar temple is one of the twelve Jyotirlingas of Lord Shiva and is situated 110 kilometres away from Pune in Maharashtra, India.
The temple dates back to the eighteenth century and is a mix of old and neo architecture. Located amidst the serene and rich green virgin forests of the great Sahyadri hills, it is also the source of the river Bhima which finally merges with the river Krishna.
It takes about more than five hours to reach Bhimashankar from Pune. State Government buses ply from Pune twice a week. However, a person can arrange a taxi also to visit this beautiful temple of Lord Shiva.
During the Hindu festival of Mahashivaratri, when there is a great fair conducted at the temple premises, crowd is also uncontrollable. So to ferry pilgrims to visit Lord Shiva’s temple at that auspicious time of Mahashivaratri, buses run to and fro daily.
A visit to this temple of Lord shiva is really worth remembering.
