While many people have an idea of things they'd like to accomplish, dreams they'd like to come true, without understanding how to set goals, they will find them impossible to achieve. Follow these tips to focus your life and set on the path to attaining your dreams.
Brainstorm a list of things you want to accomplish. This list can be as far into the future as you would like. It can cover as many aspects of your life as you would like. Maybe you want to include career goals, personal goals, places you'd like to visit, things you'd like to do. Do not limit yourself. Go crazy. Think big.
Break the list down by time period. Note which goals can be accomplished in the next week, month, few months, year, or in a few years. Be realistic. Setting impossible goals will only contribute to failure. Be realistic with the time you have available when considering the dates you set.
As you sort the goals, delve deeper into what you need to do in order to achieve the goal. Take into consideration any special classes or training that the goal may require. Think about experience that you may need before taking the next step. For example, if you want to open a cake shop, are there cake decorating classes you need to take first? If you want to travel to Italy, do you have a passport? Where will the money come from?
Incorporate a reward system for your goals. Sometimes achieving the goal is the reward, like taking that trip to Italy. Sometimes you need a few incentives along the way. Maybe, if you're dieting, and the weight loss goal seems very far off, you may want to incorporate rewards for various milestones. A manicure at 10 pounds, a new outfit at 20 pounds, a massage at 30...
