Can Writing Articles Earn You a Living?

With the information age we're in, people everywhere look to the Internet for information. The web is filled with content-hungry cyberspace surfers and if you can write great content, you can earn a living with it. 

In early 2006 I got my start as a freelance writer writing content for websites and was able to begin to support my family doing this while my husband returned to school.  Three years later I'm well-known for mentoring other writers and for helping my clients make money. I now have a small and thriving writing and web marketing business that employs several writers. I've taken the time to learn how to write articles in a way that can get results. 

What results? I'll tell you!

• My articles promote my freelance writing services and have established me as a professional to the point that I rarely have to trawl writing job sites for work because many clients find me when they go searching for my professional writing expertise in the search engines.
• My articles fuel over a dozen websites of my own plus revenue-sharing article sites that bring me passive income through contextual advertising, revenue-sharing (like the revenue program here on Askables), affiliate marketing, and other income-generating programs. And those articles also help me establish myself as a pro because I can use them as writing samples when I want a writing gig on a particular topic.
  
• I sell articles to clients for a fee. They tell me what their aim is with those articles and I help them get those results.
  

How do you make money writing articles?

Here are some tips to help you use articles to create an income for yourself:

• Write an interesting article. Help people solve a problem and pique further interest with the content and that could lead them to click the links on the page or click your byline link so they can learn more about you. Start with an interesting title and then a lot of the important information in the first paragraph, so you can grab the reader's attention.
  
• Research high ranking search engine keywords. People use words to find things online so if you have the right mixture of words in your articles, people wanting to know about the subject you're writing about have a greater chance of finding the article you wrote. Learning about search engine optimization is well worth your time if you want to make money online!
  
• Use social media tools to promote your articles. This can help them get seen by a wider audience and some of that audience will bookmark those articles and that, my friend, is viral marketing :)  Having an article go viral can make you money for a very long time! I've published articles in 2006 that still earn me monthly income to this very day!

There are a lot of tricks to the trade but if you want to make a part-time or full-time income writing for the web and you have writing skills as well as determination, you can definitely supplement or replace your income this way.
