Marriage – Not A Bed Of Roses

The bible says that a man shall leave his father and mother and cling to his wife and they shall become one.

Becoming “one” as a couple takes more than we think. First, let’s put into consideration that the husband and wife come from different family backgrounds and possibly, different ethnics. The fact that we are imperfect humans does not make it easier. It will take a lot of hard work, patience, tolerance, love and understanding to become one. Steps to becoming one are:

Have genuine and unadulterated love for each other: Some persons get married to a person because he/she is handsome or beautiful, has money, a lot of influence in the society, drives fleet of flashy cars etc without having any real love for the person.

Respect each other: Respecting each other brings about more love and happiness in the home. A man who respects his wife will not raise his hand against her. A woman who respects her husband will not use abusive language against him.

Trust each other no matter how difficult it seems: In this present age of high percentage of infidelity in marriage, it is really difficult trusting but you can never be one if you continue to have doubts about your spouse’s fidelity. Just trust and let it be.

Confide in each other: Confiding in each other brings you closer. It helps in creating a bond between couples, you become intimate friends and protect each other.

Support each other: Supporting each other involves emotional, physical and financial wise. Ask yourself if you are always there when your partner needs you in time of emotional distress like the loss of a beloved. Some persons desert their spouses or partners in time of financial difficulties. Providing support for each other in difficulties builds a strong bond between the couple.
