Working in a foreign country is the hardest thing to experience especially if you cannot afford to bring your family with you. Sometimes we are lucky to find real friends that can be relied on whenever we are in need, not financially but emotionally. When we meet somebody from our country we easily get friends without knowing his or her background. That is the worst part of it because we sometimes end up hurt after realizing we are being fooled.
“Wishing to be friends is quick work, but friendship is a slow-ripening fruit.”
Aristotle
I remember when we were fishing last November 2009; one of our friends of other nationality joined us. I jokingly asked him, why are you going with us? Don’t you have any friend of the same nationality? Then he answered my question with a sad voice: Actually, I had a lot friends before when my business still strong and now that I don’t have anything I lost my friends too. I never thought that he would take my question seriously. I realized that if you don’t have money you don’t have friends, he added. I too became sad because it didn’t just happened to him but to all of us. Sadly, some people are really opportunist.
Personally, I have my worst experiences with this kind of people. But this does not mean that I will not be friendly anymore. Everybody needs real friends.
So if it is difficult to find one, why we need real friends? These quotes are few answers for the question.
“Friendship improves happiness, and abates misery, by doubling our joys, and dividing our grief.”
“The greatest sweetener of human life is Friendship. To raise this to the highest pitch of enjoyment, is a secret which but few discover.”
Joseph Addison
“Friendship is the source of the greatest pleasures, and without friends even the most agreeable pursuits become tedious.”
St. Thomas Aquinas
We all know that a real friend is a treasure and you must be smart of choosing one.
“One friend in a lifetime is much, two are many, three are hardly possible. Friendship needs a certain parallelism of life, a community of thought, a rivalry of aim.”
Henry Brooks Adams
"A true friend is someone who thinks that you are a good egg even though he knows that you are slightly cracked."
Bernard Meltzer
"A friend is someone who sings your heart's song back to you when you have forgotten the words."
David Coppola
These are just few of a thousand quotes, which illustrate the beauty of friendship. The most important is we must feel it in our heart.
Good luck to all of us…
